Maternal Mental Health and Well-being

Maternal Mental Health & Well-being pairs professional western psychology with Ayurveda’s deep understanding of the mind. This course heavily focuses on trauma informed care respective to both prenatal and postpartum psychology. Specific mood disorders and disturbances of mental health will be described so that the Ayurvedic Doula is properly equipped to manage symptoms through Ayurveda, or to refer out to a medical professional. Moreover, the mental well being of the entire family experiencing the birthing process is considered in this course; such as the partner of a birthing person or other close relationships involved. How to support loss and grief within the Ayurvedic Doula’s scope of practice is also enumerated in Maternal Mental Health & Well-being.

Ayurvedic Psychology, known as Manas Shastra is an invaluable area of study when working with prenatal and postnatal families. In Manas Shastra, the Doula will learn Ayurvedic diagnoses and treatments in regards to mental wellness, and how to implement this subject matter into their practice when caring for clients and families. In addition to the above subjects, support for LGBTQIA families, Intimacy after birthing, and imperative medical resources will also be educational topics. Upon completion of this course, the Ayurvedic Doula will feel self-assured and supported while navigating Maternal Mental Health & Well being within their business practice.
