“September Morning” holds a deeper meaning than it first appears. September is a period of seasonal transition marked by the autumn equinox, a time of balance, harvest, representing the new beginnings and preparation for the colder months. This month marks the culmination of much of our vegetation; enjoy perishables, but do so with sound judgment.

🍇 Fruits of the Season

  • Grapes: Grapes are abundant and best taken in moderation to help avoid skin eruptions or boils.
  • Melons: Casaba, Turkish, and Persian melons are likewise plentiful. Consider a simple meal of melon, followed by a small amount of rolled oats to buffer acidity — an approach traditionally valued for supporting the kidneys.
  • Pears: Choose pears when they are ripe and juicy; baked or steamed, they are considered beneficial for the liver and blood.
  • Apples: New apples are arriving; enjoy them raw, or prepared stewed, baked, or lightly fried as your system may prefer. Organic applesauce pairs gracefully with dumplings, noodles, or simply with toast or crackers.
  • Pineapple: As taught by Dr. Popat Prabhuram Vaidya, pineapple is a reliable seasonal remedy and should not be underestimated; small portions taken every few hours may aid recuperation.

🌿 Seasonal Grains

  • Corn: Organic corn remains excellent while it lasts; enjoy it moderately, as it is held to be valuable for the liver. Roast evening corn together — whether in the canyons, fields, backyards, or by the seashore — and savor these wholesome pleasures that money cannot buy.
  • Squash: Squash, whether steamed or baked, can be useful for intestinal comfort. It keeps well through the winter and may be chosen more often than potatoes.
  • Tomatoes: Tomatoes are plentiful and deserve a regular place on the menu — aim for a fresh tomato salad once or twice weekly and include tomato sauce when possible.
  • Cabbage: Although cabbage is a winter vegetable, a serving of coleslaw from time to time — especially when genuinely desired — may help encourage a sluggish liver to act.
  • Pumpkin: While the proverbial pumpkin pie is a delicacy, more frequent use of pumpkin itself can reveal its strengthening and regulating qualities.
  • Cucumbers: Cucumbers, cooling to the blood, also support digestion and are well-suited to the season.

  • Early hot baths and unhurried morning walks in nature help the body adjust to the seasonal changes that are underway.
  • Self Abhyanga with warm Sesame Oil is a perfect way to transition to the autumn season.
  • Avoid heavy spices to appreciate their nature and keep some for the winter months.
  • This is, too, a time for diverse herbal teas.
  • Follow your gentle promptings and enjoy them in small amounts.
  • Above all, eat when truly hungry; in that state, we better relish the fruits and vegetables Mother Nature has prepared for us.

P.S. These seasonal suggestions have been prepared with consideration for modern dietary habits and the climatic conditions of the United States and Europe.
