The first Sukta of Rigveda says: ||AUM- AGNIMILE PUROHITAM YAGYASYA DEVA MRUTVIJAM| HOTTARAM RATNA GHATAMUM ||
Meaning: Aum- I praise Agni, who is Purohita (prime priest) of Yagya (sacrifice and purification) and, it’s Ritviji (the priest, that Almighty, performing sacrifice and purification at the proper time) and that Yagya (pure fire which is directed towards Devas or Angels), who is also Hotra (priest invoking the Gods) and bestower of Ratna (wealth of spiritual, mental, and physical plane).
God is love because, in its presence, no evil can exist. Yet, to all who are out of right relation to that Almighty, that Almighty is pure and consuming fire. This fire is not a process of punishment but of purification. It burns, as did the fire Moses saw in the bush until the dross is consumed and the wrong expiated. Then, the truth, love, and harmony shine forth and no longer as consuming flame but as the light to guide pathways.
||AGNI: PURVEBHIR- RISHIBHHIR -LIDDYO NUTANNAIR -UTA| SA- DEVAM- EHA-VAKSHATI||
Meaning: That pure Agni in the past was praised by the wise sages and is still being praised now. Oh, Agni, along with Devas (Angels- Satwa meaning purity and auspiciousness) grows in this place.
Universal chemistry, by which the science of alchemy opens the knowledge of all nature, being founded on the first principles of prime atom (holy fire). As per our Vedic sages, whatever knowledge discovered is founded on that first principle. Saint John describes redemption or the new creation of fallen souls on the same first principles. Divine tincture transmutes the base metal of soul into perfection, that will pass the fire of eternity. Without a philosophical view of the cosmos, the material plane of Alchemy can’t, shan’t and will not work.
Whatever one’s belief in hell may be, it symbolizes the purification of spirit by consuming that pure fire in body, mind, and spirit. The choice is ours as to whether that fire is ignited here or in the future. In the balance of each life, it would seem that most people expiate their wrongs in the flash, by the consuming flame of conscience, until harmony with the right is again established. This purification, if rightly borne, summons from their hiding places the most delicate, divinely sympathetic, and beautiful possibilities of one’s nature (in Ayurved, we call PRAKRUTI).
Ayurved believes in treating and re-establishing this divine fire by means of purification of the mind and body. Dr. Prafulla Vaidya (my father) wrote excellent words in the Ayurved Jagat newspaper discussing the importance of the development of the Nirama Vrutti (purification of body and manas /mind / psyche). Physical suffering results from the violation of physical laws and mental suffering results from the violation of spiritual laws either by self or others.
By proper assistance of that pure fire in the mind and body, we can purify both and establish health and harmony for self, others, and this universe. At Ayurved Sadhana, we believe in helping and jumpstarting that pure fire, whom we call Almighty, by means of a healthy diet and lifestyle and the use of herbs, yoga, mantra (auspicious chants) etc.
|| AGNINNAM RIYAM- ASHNAVAT- POSHAM EVA DIVE DIVE | YASHASAM VIRA VATTAMUM||
Meaning: From Agni, the wise and learned, indeed, obtained nourishment of the mind and body day by day (by performing inner and outer Yagna or holy fire). By the power of that Yagna, one can obtain glory by bravely doing Sadhana.
