Herbs and Spices for Pregnancy and Postpartum is a theory based course that goes into detail about specific Ayurvedic ingredients that best support optimal health during the prenatal and postnatal periods. Students will enhance their knowledge by understanding how to safely and practically utilize these ingredients directly within their Doula practice and be able to offer a variety of Doula services. Along with common household uses, other details discussed include, but are not limited to; Ethnobotanical background of Herbs & Spices, Contraindications, Sanskrit terminology, Therapeutic uses, and how each Herb and Spice affects specific bodily systems. Furthermore, the dosage of each herb and spice is described to assist in the understanding of safe and appropriate administration in regards to pregnancy and postpartum.
Basic energetics and pharmacological components are also described in Herbs and Spices for Pregnancy and Postpartum. Additionally, how these substances interact with the Digestive, Circulatory, Respiratory, Nervous, and of course the Reproductive systems are enumerated in this course. Upon completion of this course, you will possess the understanding of how these herbs and spices relate to the fundamental systems of the body and mind within the overlay of Pregnancy and Postpartum care. Herbs and Spices for Pregnancy and Postpartum is a prerequisite to the hands-on pregnancy and postpartum cooking courses.
