Every parent with growing children should be a thorough student of the chemistry of food. Here are some common health challenges in childhood that, through using food as medicine through the lens of Ayurveda, can be supportive in improving ailments.

If the child’s bones do not grow to a sufficient size and strength, care in selecting foods rich in proteins, lime, magnesium, and phosphate may correct the issue.

If blood is lacking in red corpuscles, as in anemia, the diet should contain iron (e.g. spinach and beets) and sufficient albuminoids to build the blood.

Where the child stores up too much fat, care in the amount of exercise and of oxygen consumed is of vital importance, ensuring that the child is not lacking in red or white blood corpuscles. A diet should not be too prolonged and eliminating an overabundance of fats, sugar, and too many carbohydrates should be followed.

If a child remains thin, pale, and sad, attention must be given to the nerves, the digestive system, and blood-nourishing food. In addition, exercise of vital organs through deep breathing (pranayama), yoga, and meditation should be given rather than directly putting children on SSRI or other antibiotics.

The common practice of stuffing children with sweets, candies, pizza, cold drinks, and alike merely to keep them quiet or to induce them to obey directly violates the laws of health and nature. Furthermore, the notion that multivitamins and so many supplements will provide children with the vitamins and minerals needed for proper health and development is a big hoax. Let them play outside as much as possible and get dirty with the hands of Mother Nature. These are their vaccines and immunity-boosting supplements.

In children and youth, nature has to supply the waste of the system and furnish material for the growth of the body. Their food, therefore, should be plain, pure, fresh, and eaten regularly, adapted to their constitution and healthy habits. Seasonal organic fruits, vegetables and spices should be always part of their diet with an ample supply of natural and pure water.

As per Ayurvedic Vaidya,  Vaidya Prabhuram Jivanram writes: ‘The food which furnishes the purest and the best nutriment and yields the most heat and energy, with least refuse is the economic food and in the selection of food for any individual, the result to be gained from the food must be borne in mind’.

As Ayurveda says ‘The largest amount of nutriment at the lowest cost, with due attention to palatability, purity, and variety is the key because food is ‘PRASADAM’ (highest offering) to that ‘MAHA AGNI’ (digestive fire, our biological spirit).

FOOD IS MEDICINE AND MOTHER NATURE IS A CURE.
Mental food always reciprocates with physical food and vice versa. In healthy living habits,  mental food (E.g. good auspicious reading, chanting, meditation, deep breathing, and exercise of vital organs) is very important.

The youth of every country is determined by the childhood of that country. We should not forget that every child’s body is an auspicious temple and food is ‘PRASAD’ (auspicious offering to that holy fire) for that temple.
