As the season turns, small shifts make a big difference. This month's October Seasonal Guide highlights gentle adjustments to support digestion, energy, and steadiness.

“If it does not threaten rain, or snow feathers, we shall have fair weather tomorrow.” — Old farmer’s rule

🍇Fruit & Storage

The traditional grape cure is still in order; heat the juice if quicker results are desired. Squash, vegetable marrow, and pumpkins will keep through the season, so enjoy the more perishable foods first. Some pears and grapes store well, while others are best enjoyed fresh.

🍴Seasonal Diet Adjustments

Although temperatures are dropping in some regions, it’s not yet the time for overly spicy foods. Add warm drinks to breakfast. Include baked dishes at dinner. Keep lunch light — salads and rolled oats are still suitable.

🩺Glandular Care

For enlarged glands, goiters, or swellings: drink the juice of two oranges at breakfast. Before each meal, take a small teaspoon of saleratus (baking soda) in a glass of hot water. From the old archives of Prabhuram Ayurved Vidyalaya (Mumbai, India): apply hot water compresses to the goiter, dry quickly, dust with cornstarch, and repeat every six hours. Results may take days or weeks, and improvements often come suddenly — include your own doctor’s advice as well.

🫜Root Vegetables & Seasonings

Beets, turnips, carrots, and onions act as valuable ballast and eliminators. When solarized and seasoned with caraway, anise, fennel, dill, or celery seeds, they carry high medicinal value and serve well in salads or as garnishes in late fall and winter.
Wholesome entrée idea: Mashed turnips with onion and garlic, rolled in flour, shaped into patties, then fried or baked; serve with a rich tomato or browned-flour gravy.

🥬Sorrel & Greens

Sorrel is especially useful this month for glandular swellings — try it in soups with sago or finely chopped as a side. Sorrel, spinach, chicory, endive, dandelion, and chives are excellent for acidity and anemia. For women, hot soups of these greens help support the body in times of blood loss.

🍆Other Valuable Foods

Eggplant is nutritious when properly prepared — best in the Indian style. Salsify (oyster plant) helps build the glandular system and promotes buoyancy. Celery is refreshing and satisfying.

P.S. These seasonal suggestions have been prepared with consideration for modern dietary habits and the climatic conditions of the U.S., Canada, Russia, and European climates
