In Nighantu: Advanced Ayurvedic Herbal Studies, students will focus on over 80+ herbs covered in classical Nighantu texts. While still abundant, many of these herbs have receded back into the fountain of knowledge. This course is imperative for the Ayurvedic Practitioner as herbal protocols will be the primary line of treatment when forming Ayurvedic care plans for clients. Moreover, each herb is carefully examined from the ethnobotanical description to the metaphysical implications. The students will also learn household remedies and rare herbal formulations that they may utilize within their own Ayurvedic practice.
The lectures integrate basic concepts from western pharmacology, the biochemistry of important active ingredients in medicinal plants, as well as their absorption, transport, metabolism, and excretion properties. Principles of administration and drug-herb interactions will be covered in depth.
- In Nighantu: Advanced Ayurvedic Herbal Studies, students will also learn:
To understand the concept of pharma co-dynamics and pharma co-kinetics. - To understand the therapeutic index, measures of toxicity, and measures of safety and efficacy.
