Ashwagandha Kshirpak and Sleepy Time (Nidra Devi) Kshirpak
Years after years, Dr. Vaidya gets one of the most common complaint from his clients when they first come for his consultation – Sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep deprivation, or sleep apnea, etc. But, when he treats them with Ayurvedic herbs, they see tremendous improvement. One of the go-to herbal decoction which Dr. Vaidya prescribes to his clients is “Ashwagandha Milk or Ashwagandha Kshirpak” which is the basic Ayurvedic herbal tonic to support restful sleep. The only ingredient which we will be using in Ashwagandha Milk is Ashwagandha itself.

First, we will be talking about how to make “Ashwagandha Milk” at home so that anyone can get sound sleep and be fresh in the morning and if they only have Ashwagandha in their apothecary.
Second, most importantly, we are also going to talk about how to extend Ashwagandha Kshirpak to make Dr. Vaidya’s most powerful formula “Sleepy Time Kshirpak or Nidra Devi Kshirpak” with other herbs which will help in reducing total stress, peaceful and restful sleep throughout the night. Nidra in Sanskrit means Sleep, and Devi means Goddess. “Sleepy Time Kshirpak or Nidra Devi Kshirpak” not only supports in falling asleep but it works well in insomnia, anger, and instability of nervous system. It calms down the mind, releases the muscle tension, and helps in deep and peaceful sleep.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is one of the most utilized nerve tonics. It is Vata and Kapha pacifying Ayurvedic herb which induces and helps as sleeping aid. Ashwagandha is a Rasayana or rejuvenating herb which also acts as Aphrodisiac. It works as anti-anxiety and anti-aging herb and supports in general debility and weakness. Ashwagandha also promotes a healthy mood and hence reduces the stress. It fosters healthy blood sugar and cholesterol while supports balanced hormones.
Bhringaraj (Eclipta prostrata) reduces deep seated Kapha and Vata. It also reduces insomnia & dizziness. Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is a tonic, relaxant, tranquilizer, gentle & non-addictive sedative. It supports spiritual upliftment, eases depression, melancholy, nervous restlessness. Shankhapushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis) is a sedative; helps in insomnia, mental imbalances, nervous debility, and fatigue. It induces feeling of calmness & peacefulness. Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi) is also a nervine tonic and induces tranquility of the mind. It also quickly acts comforting in cases of mild mental derangement, hysteria, nervous and convulsive disorders. Nutmeg (Jaiphal) also induces sleep and acts as mild sedative in low doses.
Ashwagandha Milk or Ashwagandha Kshirpak
Ingredients
- 1.5 Tsp Ashwagandha
- 1 Cup of Organic Cow’s Milk, Almond Milk or Milk of your choice
- 1 Cup Water
Instructions
- In a heavy bottom steel pot, take Ashwagandha, milk of your choice and water.
- Mix it very well and start boiling the water and herbs.
- When the mixture reduces to ½ of the original quantity i.e., 1 cup, take it off from stove and strain it.
- Drink it while it is warm 20 to 30 minutes before bedtime.
Sleepy Time Kshirpak or Nidra Devi Kshirpak
Ingredients
- 2 Tsp Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)
- ¼ Tsp Bhringaraj (False Daisy / Eclipta prostrata)
- ¼ Tsp Passionflower (Krishna Kamal / Passiflora incarnata)
- ¼ Tsp Shankhapushpi (Butterfly Pea / Convolvulus pluricaulis)
- ¼ Tsp Jatamansi (Indian Spikenard / Nardostachys jatamansi)
- 1/8 Tsp Nutmeg (Jaiphal)
- 1.5 Cups of Organic Cow’s Milk, Almond Milk or Milk of your choice
- 1.5 Cups Water
Instructions
- In a heavy bottom steel pot, take all herbs, milk of your choice and water.
- Mix it very well and start boiling the water and herbs.
- When the mixture reduces to ½ of the original quantity i.e., 1.5 cups, take it off from stove and strain it.
- Drink it while it is warm 20 to 30 minutes before bedtime.
